NIER: Automata
TITLE SEQUENCE / ANIMATION
The story of Nier is an analysis of the human condition. Machines Have taken over the world. And androids, made in the image of their creators are programmed to annihilate all machine life forms. Androids and machines are given the ability to live in new bodies with old memories once their original is destroyed. Thus perpetuating the endless cycle of war between machine and android kind. However, it is later revealed that the human race, that the androids were defending, went extinct a millennia ago. Now without purpose, and only a desire to serve, the 2 main protagonists of the story are given a chance to discover the meaning of what it means to be human.

IN-GAME REFERENCE
In-game reference used to determine the overall style and color of the sequence.
LIGHTING REFERENCE
The lighting reference was based on the original in-game lighting in order to stay true to the mood that the world of Nier portrays.
ENVIRONMENTAL REFERENCE
The environmental reference is based on the post-apocalyptic world that Nier: Automata takes place in. Since the concept for the sequence is derived from the roman catholic religion. I chose to use cathedrals and decorative architecture to portray the main concept through the environment.
INITIAL STYLE FRAMES
These are the initial style frames, I developed for the storyboard of Nier: Automata. In the end, the concept ended up changing its course to what you see now.
